Communication

Communication – assume goodwill

Encouragement is the key

Please praise your child for good effort or achievements and give recognition for the good things that the class, the teacher and the school do. This will help your child to build positive attitudes to school and develop the confidence they need to take risks in their learning. These are essential qualities for students to make good progress.

Newsletter

Appin Public School publishes a weekly newsletter which can be found on the school's website at www.appin-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/ or emailed to you if you wish. This contains news of coming events, school happenings and information of general interest related to your child's education.  It's important to read the newsletter to keep up to date.  However, it is wise to check your child's school bag each afternoon for other letters, notes from teachers, and of course to see that s/he brought home their lunch box, hat and that very expensive jumper! If you would like to receive an electronic copy of the newsletter, please provide us with your email address by emailing:

appin-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au with Newsletter in the subject line.

An electronic newsletter means you never miss out! It arrives in your inbox and can be read whenever and wherever you have access to a computer.

Communicating with Teachers

Parents are asked not to speak to teachers while they are walking students into class or teaching.  If you would like to discuss a matter with your child's class teacher or another member of staff please call the office on the above telephone number and a suitable time will be arranged.  It is better to arrange a mutually convenient time outside class time when the teacher can give you and the issue their full attention.

It is important that parents let their children know that they are working with the school and their teacher. Please ‘assume goodwill' if a concern arises. We all really like children and do our best to support them; that's why we are teachers. Please see the heading ‘Approaching Your School' for further information about who can assist you with particular issues or concerns.

Expectations

In consultation with the community our school has developed a ‘Parent Code of Conduct', included near the end of this package.  It is set out in the same matrix format as our student code of conduct. While much of what is written is ‘common sense', it provides a consistent framework of expectations that assist in promoting a harmonious school atmosphere.

Label it

Please make sure all of your child's clothing and belongings are clearly labeled with their name.

Lost Property

Please place your child's name on all articles (including school cardigans, jumpers, lunch boxes, drink bottles, pencil cases, school bags etc).  Lost property is kept in the Office.  A large amount of lost property is accumulated by the end of each term.  You are welcome to check in ‘Lost Property' at any time if your child has failed to locate lost items.
